Synopsis
Alba Rohrwacher (HAPPY AS LAZZARO, LA CHIMERA) delivers a transformative performance in this immersive, compelling new drama and elegant homage to Monica Vitti from director/co-writer Roberta Torre. Monica (Rohrwacher) is losing her memory, and it is tearing her life apart. But then something unexpected happens and she finds meaning in what is happening to her by immersing herself in the memories of another Monica, one she has always admired: the iconic Italian actress Monica Vitti. She begins to dress like her, imitate her, acting out scenes from her films and identifying with her characters. Monica’s loving husband Edoardo (Filippo Tomo, KIDNAPPED IFF23) sees how important this charade is to her and lets it become part of their daily life, until the line between film and reality starts to blur. Featuring original music by Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi (IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE), IN THE MIRROR poignantly explores the power of dreams and memory, celebrating the enchantment of cinema.
